Weird amusements

Forgive me, members of the Friday night GrainOffering group for rehashing but it amuses me 😉

This is purely stated to entice discussion and does not necessarily express my opinions.  Paul posted recently a summary of our recent series on Galatians.  Following is a snippet:

Galatians 5:6
“–the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Following in the steps of Jesus, Paul makes the point that the law really is summed up in acts of love for God and toward our neighbor. If this was good enough for the Galatians it is good enough for us.

So the question I have to ask is…  If “the law really is summed up in acts of love for God” and we are told to express that love, then doesn’t that mean we are bound by the law?

  2. cool

i like your new look too!!

  3. I was getting bored with the last look and thought it was time to change. If it were this easy to redecorate our house, I would do it monthly.

I noticed you skirted my probing question 😉

  4. your new look…it’s caliente!!

your question…well i think we better be obedient there are great benefits from it. You know love comes with a lot of sacrifice not to mention accountability too. In a way we are “bound” to love a certain way – God’s way. If not then we love as the world does. Sometimes I use the word love in such a sweet, lovely way that I want to go brush my teeth! Love is not always that way, it’s not a feeling it is through “faith” so as believers we have freedom in Christ but to disobey this law the consequences are great.

Am I way off base Chief?

  5. my only comment is that i miss meeting with you guys! hopefully i will be able to make this week…we are meeting this week, right?

  6. QP – i think you are right on target. Love must be discerning. It is not always “affectionate” but is sometimes going to be “tough”. Love is relational (like how I snuck that in) and it not a feeling.

Kelly – we are meeting this week… but we (QP and I) won’t be there due to kids coming back from camp and VBS programs at my parents’ church. We miss you too!

  7. I love the paradox. Very cool.

OK, here is the official, ex cathedra, response: yes.

But, that Law that we are obligated to obey is the Law of love, as demonstrated in the life and teachings of Jesus, not the OT law and its regulations.

“Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.” Romans 13:8

Note that this “fulfillment” is more akin to the idea of completing the requirements of the law. In this sense love supercedes the OT law but doesn’t disregard it.

  8. yeah! what Paul said!!
